For a while, the future of Salt Food and Events looked uncertain.

The Warooka restaurant and function venue was hit hard by the algal bloom, with visitor numbers dropping and many people steering clear of local seafood altogether.

“People were scared to come in, they were scared to eat seafood and people didn’t come down to Point Turton on holiday anymore,” owner Jo Rowe said.

The impact was immediate and far-reaching.

“It was one thing after the other,” Ms Rowe said.

But after months of challenges, Salt is finding its feet again.

Armed with a new chef, fresh ideas and a loyal local following, the venue is now welcoming diners back through its doors.

“The community has been really supportive,” Ms Rowe said.

That support has helped bring fresh local seafood back to centre stage, with favourites such as King George whiting and garfish once again in a starring role.

“I love the King George whiting and the garfish that we’ve now got back on the menu,” she said.

Alongside seafood favourites, diners can tuck into lobster dishes, fresh pasta specials and a range of options catering for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets.

Salt has also built a reputation as a popular venue for weddings, celebrations and private functions, catering for everything from intimate dinners to events of more than 100 guests.

And there’s more to come.

Sunday night pizzas are set to launch in the coming weeks, adding another reason for locals and visitors to make the trip.

“The seafood pizza is going to be amazing,” Ms Rowe said.

After a difficult chapter, Salt is once again doing what it does best: serving fresh local produce, bringing people together and giving visitors another reason to stop in and stay awhile on southern Yorke Peninsula.
