FOR many people, dry, irritated eyes are more than an occasional annoyance.

They can affect everyday comfort and quality of life.

Symptoms such as red or sore eyes, a gritty or burning sensation, excessive watering and ongoing irritation may be associated with Dry Eye Disease.

Specsavers Kadina now offers advanced in-store light therapy as part of its management options for people diagnosed with Dry Eye Disease.

One of the common contributors to Dry Eye Disease is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).

MGD occurs when the tiny oil-producing glands along the eyelids do not function as they should, which can affect the stability of the tear film.

This may contribute to symptoms such as dry, irritated eyes.

“Following a comprehensive assessment, our optometrists may recommend a range of management options based on the individual’s needs,” Retail Director Rebecca Rich said.

“These may include artificial tears, warm compresses, eyelid hygiene or, where clinically appropriate, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT).

“IPL and LLLT support the normal function of the meibomian glands, and research has clinically proven these light-based treatments provide long-lasting relief from dry eye.

“The treatments involve having four safe and effective sessions in store each one week apart, with noticeable results after the fourth session.”

“Your optometrist will discuss whether these treatment options are suitable for you.”

A comprehensive Dry Eye Assessment can help identify the factors contributing to your symptoms and assist your optometrist in recommending an appropriate management plan.

People experiencing conditions affecting the eyelids or tear film, including blepharitis, recurrent chalazion or styes, or those preparing for or recovering from cataract surgery, may also benefit from an assessment to determine the most appropriate management options.

“If dry or irritated eyes are affecting your daily life, book a comprehensive Dry Eye Assessment with Specsavers Kadina,” Mrs Rich said.

“Our optometrists can assess your symptoms, identify possible contributing factors and discuss the management options that may be appropriate for you.”
