AS fungicide resistance continues to emerge across southern Australian cropping systems, growers and advisers can strengthen disease management strategies at an upcoming one-day workshop in Maitland.

Run by the Disease Management Extension Network, an investment of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, the workshop will provide practical, science-based guidance on disease identification, fungicide stewardship and integrated disease management.

The Tuesday, September 1, workshop will focus on foliar diseases such as barley net blotch and Ascochyta blight in lentils and root diseases.

Participants will engage directly with experts from organisations including the South Australian Research and Development Institute, the research division of Primary Industries and Regions SA, the Centre for Crop and Disease Management and FAR Australia and explore scenarios that reflect decisions being made on farm.

Ag Consulting Co’s Bill Long, facilitating the session with AgCommunicators’ Belinda Cay, said the workshop was designed to be practical and interactive.

“This isn’t about turning up and being told what to do,” he said.

“It is an opportunity to test your thinking and have genuine conversations with researchers and pathologists.

“The science is important, but so is the practical experience in the room — that’s where valuable learning happens.”

Mr Long said issues that matter most in the region and local farming systems would be discussed, before exploring practical solutions with people who are working on these challenges every day.

“Whether you’re looking to better understand resistance risks, refine your disease management approach or sense-check decisions, these workshops are designed to provide practical, relevant insights that can be applied straight away,” he said.

The workshop is open to growers, agronomists, advisers, consultants and others involved in crop disease management and fungicide decision-making. Places are limited to keep discussion practical and focused; RSVP at tinyurl.com/3vanvz7h.
