MAITLAND Lutheran School is entering a significant year of celebration and reflection as it marks 60 years of service to the Yorke Peninsula community, while also preparing for a planned leadership transition at the conclusion of the 2026 school year.
The School Board has formally advised the community that Principal David Field will conclude his active service at the end of 2026, following 30 years of faithful and dedicated leadership at Maitland Lutheran School.
Chairperson of the Maitland Lutheran School Board, Mr Dylan Schulz, said the announcement represents a moment of gratitude and celebration, rather than uncertainty.
“David’s leadership over three decades has profoundly shaped Maitland Lutheran School,” Mr Schulz said.
“He leaves a school that is strong, stable and thriving, and very well positioned for its next chapter,”
Under Mr Field’s leadership, Maitland Lutheran School has grown from a small foundation to year 7 school of approximately 70 students and six staff into a flourishing F-12 learning community of around 480 students and 80 staff.

“It is fitting that his final year as principal coincides with the school’s 60th anniversary — a time to celebrate both the past and the future with confidence,” Mr Schulz said.
Importantly, the Board has emphasised the announcement does not affect day-to-day operations of the school. Learning programs, student wellbeing, staffing and strategic direction continue as planned.
“Our staff team is strong and committed, leadership is shared, and the Board has a clear vision for the future.”
The Board is working closely with Lutheran Education South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia to conduct a careful and well-planned national search for the school’s next Principal. Recruitment has already commenced, ensuring continuity, stability and thoughtful succession.
Mr Field has expressed confidence in both the community and the direction of the school. “It has been an enormous privilege to serve a community so deeply invested in its young people and in providing high-quality Christian education,” Mr Field said.
“I am optimistic about the future of Maitland Lutheran School and look forward to supporting a smooth and positive transition to new leadership.”
Throughout 2026, the school community will be invited to participate in opportunities to acknowledge, celebrate and give thanks for Mr Field’s remarkable contribution, while also celebrating six decades of Christian education, service and community connection on the Yorke Peninsula.
“Maitland Lutheran School is thankful for what has been, confident in where we are now, and hopeful for what lies ahead,” Mr Schulz said.
The school invites community members to join them from 12 pm on Friday, June 12 as they commemorate their 60th anniversary. There will be an open afternoon until 2pm followed by a service of celebration at 2pm and then refreshments and fellowship on the school site until 5pm.
