Grassroots safety grants open for YP

YORKE Peninsula schools, sporting clubs and community groups are being encouraged to apply for a share of $150,000 in RAA Regional Safety Grants, with two local clubs among previous recipients.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available for practical projects aimed at improving safety in regional communities.

Last year, Wool Bay Golf Club received funding for floodlights to improve safety and visibility around its clubrooms, while Stansbury Golf Club secured support for fencing designed to make the course safer for members and visitors.

RAA has more than doubled the funding available through its Community Impact Fund during the past two years, with about $700,000 awarded to regional communities since the program began in 2013.

RAA general manager community and corporate affairs Emily Perry said local communities were often best placed to identify the safety improvements they needed.

“The best safety ideas come from the people living and working in these communities every day,” Ms Perry said.

“Whether it’s safer roads, better equipment, or new skills, this is a chance for local communities to turn a good idea into something that keeps people safe for years to come.”

Projects funded through the scheme have ranged from road and fencing upgrades to emergency equipment, first aid training and community facility improvements.

Regional schools, clubs and community organisations can apply for grants of up to $10,000.

Applications opened yesterday Monday, September 7, and close at 5pm on Monday, October 5.
