Free child health and development checks now available for local families

FROM first words and steps to sleep, feeding, play, and behaviour, every child develops in their own way. 

Sonder is proud to partner with the Office for Early Childhood Development to offer free child health and development checks across Yorke Peninsula. 

Available for children aged 5 months to 5 years, the checks help families understand how their child is progressing and what to expect next. 

Delivered by child health nurses with specialist skills in child health and development, the checks give families an opportunity to talk through their child’s progress and ask questions. 

Importantly, these checks are not a test. 

“Families enjoy having dedicated time to talk through their child’s milestones and ask everyday questions,” said Sonder’s child health nurse, Sarah. 

“It’s a supportive check-in that helps parents and caregivers feel informed and connected.” 

During appointments, nurses look at aspects such as the child’s growth, feeding, sleep, hearing, vision, communication, thinking, behaviour, and routines. 

If everything is going well, the check can provide peace of mind and guidance. If extra support is needed, Sonder can help families understand their options and connect with local services. 

Sonder provides and recommends checks at key stages, including 6-9 months, 12 months, 18-24 months, 3 years, and 4-5 years. Children can also be seen at any time if you have questions or concerns. 

For children younger than 6 months, families can contact the Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) or their preferred healthcare provider. 

Families do not need to live on Yorke Peninsula to attend a clinic or community appointment.
