THE Reformer Pilates studio at the Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre in Kadina is celebrating its first anniversary, marking a major community success after welcoming 10,000 visitors since opening in August 2025.

Over the past 12 months, the 12-bed studio has delivered more than 1000 classes, established an active membership base of more than 140 participants, and recorded more than 48,000 minutes of movement.

The milestone highlights a surging demand for accessible wellness and preventative health programs across the region.

ANNIVERSARY... CCSLC Pilates celebrates one year since first opening.

Belgravia Group’s health and wellbeing manager Victoria Goodwin-Barlow emphasised the broader impact of the facility on local health.

“Helping a collective of 10,000 visitors in less than a year is a tremendous accomplishment and highlights the important role programs like Reformer Pilates can play in supporting community wellbeing,” she said.

“This milestone reflects our wider goal at Belgravia Leisure of giving communities more ways to be active through inclusive spaces.”

To cater to diverse demographics, CCSLC offers tailored sessions, including Beginner Reformer, Teen Reformer, Senior Reformer, Men’s Reformer, and standard Reformer Pilates classes.

CCSLC group fitness coordinator Nicole Fergusson noted that community response had exceeded all initial expectations from day one.

“One of the biggest moments was right at the beginning, when we absolutely obliterated our initial goal of reaching 80 members,” Ms Fergusson said.

“We couldn’t believe how many people wanted to join us and be part of our beautiful new studio.”

Fergusson highlighted both the physical and mental health advantages that kept participants returning to the studio:

“For me, what makes Pilates so enjoyable is the way it connects you to your body,” she said.

“You have to focus, be present and work with your breath, while challenging your muscles in a completely different way to traditional strength training.

“Once that Pilates burn sets in, your mind really can’t wander. It grounds you in the moment, and, for that hour, the outside world tends to melt away.”

CCSLC Pilates instructor Elise Price, who teaches about six classes per week with six to 12 participants per session, shared how rewarding the journey had been for both instructors and attendees.

“Pilates is enjoyable because it combines movement, challenge and connection,” Ms Price said.

“The most rewarding part has been watching the classes grow, seeing participants become more confident and excited to attend, and feeling my own confidence develop as an instructor.”

Looking ahead to the studio’s second year, leadership aims to build on this strong foundation. Ms Price plans to explore new exercise sequences to keep sessions dynamic, while Ms Ms Fergusson hopes to integrate studio activities with the rest of the leisure centre.

“One of my biggest personal goals for our second year is to encourage more crossover between our Pilates studio, and gym and group fitness programs,” Ms Fergusson said.

“I’d love to see our Pilates members feeling confident enough to step into the gym or try a group fitness class, and
our gym members discovering what Pilates can add to their training.”
