BARLEY Stacks Wines will showcase the very best Yorke Peninsula has to offer at a Tasting Australia event from 12pm on Saturday, May 4.

Savour the Yorkes will be a family-friendly event featuring local food, wine and music in a relaxed atmosphere at the Barley Stacks Wines Cellar Door, 159 Lizard Park Drive, Maitland.

The free event, utilising local produce, fresh from the land, sea and farms of the peninsula, will allow guests to graze their way through the afternoon and learn about local ingredients, including native foods, fresh local seafood, nourish bowls, soup, locally brewed coffee and sweet treats.

Pair your meal with Yorke Peninsula wines, beers and spirits while listening to the unique sounds of local artists JJ ARV, Darren Braund and Caleb Raymond.

“This is the seventh time we have hosted a Tasting Australia event, and they have been successful in the past,” Barley Stacks managing director and owner Lyall Schulz said.

“This year we are excited to have two new local businesses involved — Yorkes Coffee Company and Nourished by Jo.

“People need to register their attendance, through the Tasting Australia website or you can find the link in the events section of our website, to help us with numbers for catering.

“You will also find the full menu for the day on our website soon.

“It will be a family event so children are welcome and, if the weather is nice, it will be held outside as well as inside, and there will be lawn games and activities to help keep the little ones entertained.”

Mr Schulz attended a Tasting Australia event in Adelaide which inspired the winery to host something locally.

Other local businesses involved in this year’s event include Newchurch Family Farms, MBC Foods and Rustic Tarts.

Wine from Barley Stacks Wines will be available to purchase by the glass or bottle, as well as beer and seltzer from Watsacowie Brewery, beer from The Bond Store and cocktails from Sunny Hill Distillery.

“There is a growing awareness Yorke Peninsula is not just about fishing and beaches,” Mr Schulz said.

“Our event, being the only Tasting Australia event in the region, has become a great way to showcase YP, its products and produce in one place.”
