MUSIC lovers and local talent on Yorke Peninsula have something new to celebrate.

The Blanche Street Blues Club is holding its inaugural jam session on Sunday, May 25, at the Edithburgh Institute — and it’s starting strong with a special guitar workshop led by none other than South Australian blues legend Chris Finnen.

The club takes its name from Blanche Street, a local hub for live music performances held at cafes, pubs and street events that bring the community together.

The workshop is 11am to 1pm and the jam session is 2pm to 5pm (set-up from 1pm).

Finnen brings over 40 years of performance experience; inducted into the SA Music Hall of Fame in 1995, he is known for his exploratory and soulful guitar style.

The workshop will focus on creative lead playing, tone control and innovative blues techniques — perfect for players looking to deepen their musical expression.

Musicians of all skill levels are encouraged to attend.

To register, contact John Weekley (0447 774 736, johnandchrisweekley@gmail.com).

John, a local musician, initiated the Blanche Street Blues Club jam sessions.

Musicians and vocalists of all backgrounds — solo players, bands or anyone who just loves to jam — is invited to bring their instruments and join the fun from 2pm.

Going forward, jam sessions will be held on the third Sunday of every month, with the aim of fostering a vibrant local music community centred on creativity, connection and a shared love of music.

The monthly gatherings are free for musicians and offer a relaxed, supportive environment to play and experiment with blues and beyond.

The workshop and jam will be held at the Edithburgh Institute, 30 Blanche Street.

To help with planning, musicians are asked to RSVP to John (contacts above), or Christine Stone (0400 080 519, christine.stonelove01@gmail.com).

With the support of Country Arts SA, the BSBC aims to grow into a creative hub that contributes to local wellbeing, inclusion and cultural life.
