Yorke Peninsula Council celebrates year of growth and community impact

YORKE Peninsula Council has endorsed its 2024-2025 Annual Report, highlighting a year of progress, partnerships and significant community outcomes across the region.

Chief executive Andrew Cameron said council remains focused on delivering value while planning for a strong, sustainable future.

“I thank our elected members, staff and community for their ongoing commitment to making Yorke Peninsula a better place to live, work and visit,” Mr Cameron said.

A major highlight for the year was the official opening of the Southern Yorke Peninsula Community Childcare Centre in Minlaton.

Operating as the Minlaton Family Centre, the facility accommodates up to 80 children per day.

Along with the Maitland Family Centre, which opened the previous year, the centres have created 120 new childcare places — a significant increase from the 14 to 18 long day care places previously available across the region.

“The childcare initiative is one of the most important projects we’ve undertaken in years,” Mr Cameron said.

“It’s not just about childcare — it’s about creating opportunities. 

“By enabling parents to work, building new career pathways, and making our region more attractive to young families, this project supports the long-term prosperity of Yorke Peninsula.”

Council also delivered strong infrastructure outcomes. 

Stage 3A of the North Coast Road upgrade was completed on time, with 3.7 kilometres of new pavement, improved drainage and sealing using innovative construction methods.

In Stansbury, construction of the seawall neared completion, a project co-funded by council, the Coast Protection Board and the Stansbury Progress Association.

The Business Grants Program was also fully allocated for a second year, supporting a wide range of ventures, from allied health and industrial/agricultural services to start-ups.
