World Plumbing Day: Bennett & Co celebrates 50 years in business
GO TEAM... Staff members at Bennett & Co are celebrating 50 years in business.

BENNETT & Co Industries is proudly celebrating 50 years in business this year, marking a significant milestone for a family business that has been part of the Copper Coast and wider Yorke Peninsula community for generations.

The business was founded in 1976 by my grandparents, Val and Alby Bennett. Like many trade businesses of that era, it began as a small local plumbing service, working closely with the community and building a reputation through reliability and honest work.

FOUNDER... Alby Bennett, and his wife Val Bennett, started the business in 1976.

Over the years, the business has been carried forward by the next generation, with my father, Donald Bennett, continuing to grow the company while maintaining the values it was built on.

Growing up around the business gave me an early understanding of the work ethic and responsibility that comes with running a company. When the opportunity came for me to step into the business alongside my father, it felt like a natural progression.

Originally the business focused primarily on residential plumbing work, including maintenance and plumbing installations for new homes.

As the business developed and opportunities arose, we expanded our capabilities.

Bennett & Co has evolved into a broader operation providing plumbing, gas, and excavation services across the region. We now work across residential, commercial and government projects, including subdivisions, infrastructure and large-scale developments.

Significant investment in equipment, systems and skilled staff has allowed us to grow while still maintaining the reliability and quality of workmanship the business has always been known for.

One of the aspects of plumbing I have always enjoyed is the challenges it brings. No two jobs are ever the same. Every project presents new problems to solve and different environments to work in.

Plumbing is a trade that combines practical thinking, technical knowledge and problem-solving, and that balance is what keeps the work interesting.

Bennett & Co has always believed in supporting the region that supports us, and contributes through sponsorship of local sporting clubs and community initiatives across Yorke Peninsula, as well as providing local employment opportunities.

This year’s milestone for our company also aligns closely with World Plumbing Day, which highlights the important role plumbers play in protecting public health. Safe water supply, sanitation and drainage systems are essential parts of modern communities, and plumbers play a critical role in ensuring these systems operate safely and reliably.

On a personal level, I am also fortunate to now have a family of my own, and it is exciting to think that the next generation may one day become involved in the business as well. Family businesses are built over time, and it would be incredibly rewarding to see the Bennett & Co story continue.

We would not have been able to reach our 50th anniversary without the support of our staff, clients, suppliers and the wider community.

I would especially like to thank our team, whose hard work, professionalism and pride in their work continue to drive the business forward.

Angus Bennett
