TREES For Life is offering more than 200 species of native seedlings as part of its Tree Scheme.
The scheme is the perfect way to source native plants to make a start, enhance existing vegetation on your property or build on revegetation.
“Native plants on farms provide a range of benefits, they offer shelter for stock, improve soil and water quality and create habitat for local animals,” a Trees for Life spokesperson said.
“Native tea-trees promote good insects in your pastures and vineyards, including a range of native bees and predators for harmful insects.
“By planting these and other native varieties, you’ll reduce your weed and pest load — which means less spraying.”
Seeds for the scheme are collected by staff and volunteers across the 42 vegetation zones in South Australia, then sorted, dried and cleaned before being matched to the orders from landholders or revegetation project coordinators.
“Whether your aim is to improve your land, increase productivity, provide food and homes for local wildlife, or all of the above, Trees For Life can help you source the right native seedlings and provide all the expert advice and information you need,” the spokesperson said.
Participants of the scheme are able to order and prepare the seedlings for planting themselves, or have one of the Trees for Life volunteer growers raise the seedlings over summer prior to being planted in winter, taking the stress out of growing.
Discounts are available for fire-affected landholders, those with an ElectraNet easement, schools and small community groups.
Seedlings ordered prior to the cutoff date on Wednesday, August 31 will be ready to plant by winter 2023 with all supplies, training and support provided.
