THREE local residents have claimed prizes in round two of Copper Coast Council’s Take the Pledge program.
Kerrin Williams, Kadina, Shania Molnar, Wallaroo, and Trisha Jones, Moonta, each received a $50 voucher to be spent at a hardware or nursery store on the Copper Coast, as well as a free six-metre x 4m trailer load of compost at the Copper Coast Resource Recovery Centre, Wallaroo.
Take the Pledge encourages people to ensure they are utilising their Food Organics Garden Organics bin appropriately to minimise household waste.
Mrs Williams said it was great to see council pushing the initiative.
“I think more people should be aware of the FOGO system and improve their waste management where possible,” she said.
“I live in a five-person household and only put my red-lid (waste) bin out once every six weeks and usually it’s only half full.”
A new member of the community, Ms Molnar said she was trying to get involved where she could.
“I’m pretty conscious about my waste and am just trying to do the right thing,” she said.
“Coming from a place that had weekly waste collection, the change to fortnightly allows me to utilise the FOGO bin which is great.”
Ms Jones said she thought Take the Pledge was a good initiative once she learnt how to utilise FOGO.
“I really wanted to work out how to cut down on waste a bit more,” she said.
“I was a bit unsure about it (FOGO) to begin with, but I’ve realised it’s not very hard to reduce waste once I learnt more about each bin.”
To deliver Take the Pledge, council has partnered with KESAB Environmental Solutions which had 65 people visit its stall at the Rotary Kadina Markets recently.
A total of 109 residents are registered for the program, all of whom are in the running to win the remaining nine bi-monthly prizes by using their FOGO bin correctly.
