Northern Yorke Peninsula Bowling Association’s season opening at Moonta on Friday, 15th September.
NYPBA president Brian Smith welcomed all present and a minute of silence was observed for past members.
Brian then introduced executive members and presented awards to last season’s premiership sides and champion of champions and other state and association event winners.
Premiership winners were Saturday Open div 1 and div 3 - Moonta; Saturday Open div 2, Thursday women div 1 & div 2 and Wednesday men all went to Wallaroo.
Association champion of champions singles winners were Mike Wildash and Di Milner, both from Wallaroo.
Kate Brokate spoke about her idea of a Blue Round this season to raise money for Prostate cancer research. This will be held in the first week of November.
Brian then congratulated all the association’s players chosen to represent the state in October at the national championships in Perth. They are Grace Moloney (Arthurton), Sharon Cavanagh (Moonta), Deb Dennis (Port Broughton), Cathy Vluggen (Wallaroo), Bob Scott (Bute) and Don Bennett (Moonta).
He then introduced NYPBA patroness Meg Brown to officially open the 2023-24 season.
Women’s champion Di Milner rolled the jack and men’s champion Mike Wildash rolled the first bowl of the new season.
Players enjoyed a game of triples and, afterwards, a lovely supper supplied by the Moonta club.
