Locals in line for Netball SA awards

Yorke Peninsula netball stalwarts Fiona Bussenschutt and Shelley Hier are finalists in the 2021 Netball SA Awards.
Bussenschutt, Paskeville Netball Club, is nominated for the Coach of the Year Award and Hier, Moonta, is up for the Umpire of the Year Award.
Bussenschutt currently coaches the G grade, plays in the A grade team and is club president.
Bussenschutt said she was touched someone took time out of their busy life to nominate her.
"I am yet to finish my detective work, but I do believe it was one of my young G graders, so extra sweet one of our youngest club members values my input," she said.
"There are so many wonderful coaches right across our state, and I hope my nomination this year may inspire people to nominate more deserving people in their clubs in the future."
Bussenschutt said she loved how netball has the power to bring people together.
"No matter who you are or your talents, whether it's on court or off, there is always a positive role that can be found for everyone," she said.
"Coaches are worth their weight in gold and clubs are always on the lookout for people keen to coach -- I am more than happy to have a chat with anyone and point them in the right direction."
Hier is an accredited B badge umpire and has played various roles within MNC and at an association level.
"I feel very privileged to have been nominated, it is nice to be recognised for what I do, but I also know there are others out there who go unrecognised for their efforts," she said.
"I will be attending the awards and taking along Libby Adams, who sneakily nominated me.
"I am looking forward to being able to acknowledge all the nominees and represent the umpires from our club and association who work tirelessly every Saturday."
Hier said umpiring was a way to still contribute to the sport and a club if you couldn't play.
"If playing isn't your aim, then maybe umpiring is, all you need is a whistle and a basic knowledge of the rules, and you can get started," she said.
"I would be happy to help out anyone who might be interested."
The winners will be announced on Friday, September 24.
