DESMOND’S Meat Service, Kadina, has again been recognised for its quality products at the Australian Meat Industry Council Regional Sausage King Competition recently.

The widely loved butcher shop claimed first places for its mettwurst, farmhouse rissoles, leg ham on the bone, boneless leg ham and traditional Australian pork sausage.

The wins earned the team at Desmond’s the title of back-to-back regional champions for mettwurst and pork sausages.

Desmond’s also claimed second place for its barbecue sausages and for its lamb, rosemary and garlic rissoles.

Manager Robert Waters said the wins were a testament to the quality produce created by the whole team.

“We use fresh produce in all our products, our pork comes from our own piggery, Ant Hill Piggery, and our lamb comes from a farm at Maitland,” he said.

“The quality makes a difference, and so does the love and care that goes into our products.

“Every one of our staff is involved in the manufacturing process, so having this kind of recognition gives everyone in the store a sense of pride.”

Robert said the competition marked the debut of his farmhouse rissoles.

“I’ve been sitting on the recipe for a little while now and decided to put them in the competition,” he said.

“Since then we’ve been selling them in the store and they’re already proving very popular.”

Amelia “Shaz” Phillips said supporting local produce was a key focus of the store.

“In every way we can, we support local businesses and we find that support comes back to us as well,” she said.

“Our customer base definitely prefers to know where their products are coming from.

“We’re also incredibly fortunate to be the only butcher in Kadina who is able to make their own smallgoods.”
