ROUND four of Copper Coast Council’s Take the Pledge program has resulted in three new local winners.
Jodi Panozzo, Rosina Jantke and Gary O’Callaghan have been recognised as being among the most diligent recyclers on the Copper Coast.
Take the Pledge encourages people to ensure they are utilising their food organics and garden organics (FOGO) bin appropriately to minimise household waste.
Residents and visitors to the Copper Coast are set for their second consecutive holiday season with the new fortnightly kerbside collection program across 2022-23.
Wardle’s Garbage owners Karen and Andy Wardle said they expected an influx of general waste collection between Christmas and the end of January.
“The introduction of the FOGO bin has led to a decrease in rubbish,” Mr and Mrs Wardle said.
“However, there are lots of people in rentals during summer who don’t use it (FOGO) enough.
“There are so many other items other than lawn clippings which can go in them.
“Food scraps are obviously the most common, but you can also put bamboo cutlery, wrapping paper that can be torn, cardboard boxes, aluminium foil rolled up in a ball, as well as lots of other items.
“This all gets shipped off to composting sites.”
Mr and Mrs Wardle encouraged people to utilise the collection of an additional FOGO bin, which can be purchased from Wardles or local hardware stores.
“The extra bin helps to ease the volume of your general waste,” they said.
“Neither (general waste or recycling) bins should be filling up too much.
“It just takes a little bit of thought to separate your rubbish and we’ll get better at reducing landfill.”
