AS preparations ramp up for the 2026-27 season, Hart Field-Site Group’s annual Getting The Crop In seminar returns to Clare on Wednesday, March 11.

The free event will connect growers with industry experts in agronomy, finance and grain markets, offering practical insights ahead of sowing.

Hart chair and Snowtown farmer Glen Wilkinson said the program had been designed to be comprehensive and relevant following a mixed harvest and record-low rainfall across much of South Australia.

“Events such as Getting The Crop In are increasingly important, providing both timely, seasonally relevant information and the opportunity for growers to connect,” Mr Wilkinson said.

“While rainfall cannot be controlled, farmers continue to adapt.

“Access to current research, market data and trial results supports forward planning and informed business decisions.”

Mr Wilkinson said he was looking forward to hearing from keynote grower speaker, Jamestown farmer Scott Clark.

“The Clark family’s use of a disc seeding system, along with weather stations, moisture probes and variable rate mapping, will provide insight into how technology is shaping on-farm decision-making and the challenges faced within their farming system.”

The program also features RaboResearch analyst Vitor Pistoia, who will outline the marketing signals shaping the 2026 season.

Hart research lead Kaidy Morgan will assess nitrogen strategies, presenting trial results and key lessons from the 2025 season.

The session will include nitrogen banking outcomes, a four-year summary of trials at Kybunga, and findings from nitrogen rate and variety trials.

Craig Davis from Crop Consulting Services and Dr Matthew Knowling from Adelaide University will delve into crop sequencing and the best performing systems.

Royce Pitchford from Pinion Advisory will present a session titled ‘Replace, repair or reinvest — making machinery decisions with confidence’, focusing on practical approaches to machinery investment decisions.

Peter Boutsalis from Plant Science Consulting will return with a herbicide resistance update, including findings from a recent SA survey.

The free Getting the Crop In event will be held at Futures Church, Stradbrooke Road (just north of the Clare racecourse), 8am-12.30pm on March 11.

A light breakfast and morning tea will be provided, thanks to the support of Agfert.

Tickets available via Eventbrite, or head to the Hart website for more information, www.hartfieldsite.org.au.

Crop establishment

The SA Drought Hub will run a free crop establishment forum immediately after Getting The Crop In.

A panel of industry experts will engage with the audience to reflect on lessons from the past season and discuss the complexities of seeding in 2026.
