ST Mary MacKillop School, Wallaroo, prides itself on working in partnership with families to prepare children to take their place as thriving people who are ready and willing to contribute to their community.
“We are a Catholic school educating the child spiritually and in all other areas of learning and wellbeing,” a school spokesperson said.
“We are delighted with our latest development, the construction of our secondary school building, named the Sacred Heart Centre.
“This year we have expanded to year 8 and next year will expand to year 9.
“Our secondary students are enjoying their own learning space with general learning areas connecting to a multi-purpose learning space or maker-space.
“These well-connected areas allow for teaching and learning in the core subjects of English, mathematics, science, technology (food technology, design and digital technologies) and religious education.
“Woodwork lessons have been a favourite working in the outdoor technology space.
“We have a 3D printer, virtual reality headsets and drones which the secondary students are really looking forward to using.
“The possibilities will be endless such as designing their projects for printing, virtual tours and visits to places we dream of and taking photos and gaining different perspectives with a bird’s eye view.”
Student numbers in junior classes are growing, but the school is committed to offering low class numbers which allows staff to personalise learning and care.
“We work together with our families to enable the students to be the best they possibly can be,” the spokesperson said.
“We value the learning and experiences that children come to school with and we build upon this.
“Communication with families is paramount to the success of this and we use Seesaw to share regular updates about classroom activities as well as catching up with parents in the most convenient way.
“Our values are grounded in the Josephite tradition and are timeless in their relevance.
“We value the development of relationships grounded in trust and respect; the courage to work beyond your comfort zone; collaboration and teamwork; commitment to learning; and we provide opportunities to celebrate success.
“Social, emotional, and spiritual learning has a strong focus at our school as we know this lays the foundation for all other learning to flourish.
“Come and visit our school, come, and see, hear, and feel what it is like to be in our welcoming, caring learning environment.”
