A PRESCRIBED burn at Marion Bay has been planned for tomorrow (Thursday, April 7).

About 13 hectares of land between Willyama Drive and Jetty Road will be affected, weather permitting.

"The burn will commence at 10.30am and is expected to be complete by 10pm," a Department for Environment and Water spokesperson said.

"The objective of the burn is to create a low fuel area next to Marion Bay to reduce the impact of a bushfire on the town.

"Yorke Highway will be closed between Jetty Street and Willyama Road with detours in place via Jetty Road, Slow Street and Willyama Drive through the Marion Bay township.

"Some smoke and fire activity may be observed on the day and following the burn and it will be patrolled until it is safe."

The burn will occur on Crown Land, managed by DEW, as part of a joint approach with Yorke Peninsula Council and the CFS Bushfire Management Committee.

"A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave," the spokesperson said.

"Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice if conditions change."
