ORRIE Cowie is renowned for producing large-framed Merinos/Poll Merinos carrying well-nourished, bright, white stylish and soft handling medium wools.

They have genetics with the potential to make profits in all environments, particularly challenging high rainfall or dusty conditions.

“Within the Orrie Cowie stud we have been continuing to also focus on a Merino that grows faster while carrying more natural muscle and fat than the traditional Merino, creating a true dual-purpose Merino,” John Dalla said.

“In March 2021 we entered the South Australian dual-purpose Merino pair of ram lambs taking first and second places which was a fantastic result.

“These ram lambs were objectively measured for muscle, fat and fleece tests on the day as well as subjectively judged.”

At the 2021 Hay Merino sheep Show, Orrie Cowie was awarded Riverina Wool Australian Champion Hogget Merino ram with ‘King George’ (Monarch 1188) sired by Collinsville Monarch 489.

“He was 13 months old, weighing 126kg with lamb’s teeth — making it back-to-back Australian Champion hogget ram,” John said.

“In 2022, we were awarded Champion Pen of Dual-Purpose Ram Weaners and Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion March Shorn Rams.

“We were again awarded most valuable fleece at the 2021 Karoonda Farm Fair for the fourth consecutive year.”

On-property in 2021, Orrie Cowie sold 134 Poll Merino and Merino rams averaging $2130 with a further 250 rams sold privately out of the paddock — 29 White Suffolk and Poll Dorset rams averaging $866.

Orrie Cowie invites you to its 57th annual on-property sale in Warooka on Wednesday, August 10.

“This year we are offering 140 Poll Merino and Merino rams with high quality, crimpy, white nourished, waterproof wools with increased early growth,” John said.

“Also offered will be 40 White Suffolk and Poll Dorset rams with improved early growth and muscling, ideal for crossing with Merino ewes to produce quality prime lambs.”

Lunch will be available.

For those unable to attend the sale there will be an interface with Auctionplus; private inspections are invited by appointment.

The stud’s third annual surplus ewe sale is on Monday, October 3.
