UPCOMING grain grower forums in Bute and Crystal Brook will allow growers and advisers to bring local issues and priorities to the Grains Research and Development Corporation’s attention.
The meetings are part of GRDC’s National Grower Network Forum program — the ‘front door’ for growers and advisers to engage with GRDC, grower relations manager south, Rebekah Starick, said.
“Each event is an important opportunity for growers to meet with peers, brainstorm the issues that affect crop production locally, and share them with the GRDC team,” Ms Starick said.
The forums would also include an update on progress from past investments and current GRDC regional and national activities, along with a presentation on a topic of local interest.
“We are pleased to be hosting Brett Asphar from Specialised Ag as our guest speaker at our Crystal Brook and Bute events,” Ms Starick said.
“Brett will speak on seeder set up and seeder bar function, including levelling/depth control, maintenance and how to trouble shoot common problems plus seed distribution for maximising yields.
“Also, Sam Trengove from Trengove Consulting and Stefan Schmitt from Northern Sustainable Soils will present on crop establishment trials in the region.”
The NGN Forum dates and venues are:
• Crystal Brook — 9am-1pm, Thursday March 26, Crystal Brook Golf Club, Hughes Gap Road
• Bute — 9am-1pm, Friday, March 27, Bute Bowling Club, Third Street
The events are free to attend and will be led by GRDC grower relations managers Rebekah Starick, Tim Bateman and Mitchell Fromm.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided and registration is essential for catering purposes. Growers and advisers can learn more and register on the GRDC website, Upcoming updates and events.
