NORTH Cowie Merino and Poll Merino Stud, Warooka, is preparing for its 36th annual on property ram sale on Wednesday, July 26.

The stud aims to breed plain-bodied, structurally correct sheep, carrying wools in the 18.5 to 21 micron range, which makes clients’ surplus sheep extremely desirable in sale yards.

“Our rams are bred to thrive in any climate and environments including the pastoral areas of South Australia and New South Wales to the high rainfall areas of the South East and Kangaroo Island,” owners the Murdoch family said.

“At North Cowie, we put an emphasis on the measurable traits which return clients more dollars per hectare, still with the ease of management at the front of mind.”

Last year North Cowie sold 150 rams at auction to a top of $4600, with a sale average of $1748.

Since then, they have sold a mixture of 70 private selection and younger spring drop rams privately, making a total of 220 rams sold for the year.

“Our 2023 Poll rams are coming along nicely and include sons from Poll rams, Glenlea Park 979, Collinsville Masterbuilt 252 (purchased by Greenfields for $58,000) and several impressive home-grown sires, including NC 190061,  and NC 200276,” the Murdochs said.

“Our Merino ram lambs are looking just as impressive and include the first progeny from White River 212-14 (purchased for $23,000) and Oak Farms 026.

“We are also very pleased with our home-grown sires North Cowie 8.01, North Cowie 0.05 and Franklin.”

North Cowie will also be displaying rams at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, in Bendigo July 14-16, the South East Stud Merino Field Day at Keith on July 19 and the Royal Adelaide Show.

Garry, Gwen, Joe and Lucy Murdoch extend a warm welcome to all clients, past and future, visitors and friends to their sale on July 26.

Inspections are welcome from 10am and the sale starts at 1pm.
