New old friends in Wallaroo

A SERIES of historical characters in the form of bollard sculptures are set to appear in Wallaroo.
Wallaroo Community Develop-ment Association, Copper Coast Council, and artist Debbie Seater are working together to transform old telegraph poles and jetty pylons into a new tourist attraction near the Wallaroo Adventure Playground, opposite the Town Hall.
WCDA president Andy West said the association had received $7000 for the project through the latest round of the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Program.
“WCDA believes that the installation of colourful art bollards will add an attraction to the town, and that the bollards will become known features that contribute to Wallaroo’s identity, much like those in Geelong, Victoria,” Mr West said.
“Special thanks must go to Shippy’s Hardware, who are working with Dulux Paints to provide all the paint required for the project, and to Dave Jack Paving and Landscaping, who transported the recycled timber bollards from Adelaide to Wallaroo.
“WCDA also welcomes the support of Copper Coast Council in ensuring the project is completed to a high standard as soon as possible.”
Copper Coast Council is consulting with the community on the project until December 4, seeking input on details such as the designs to appear on the bollards.

Mr West said the association also welcomed community involvement — particularly from woodworkers who could help shape the bollards to bring out the character in each sculpture.
