THE National Farmers’ Federation has announced ‘Our Farmers, Our Future’ as the theme for this year’s National Agriculture Day on Friday, November 20.

NFF president Hamish McIntyre said the theme highlighted the role agriculture plays in Australians’ everyday lives.

“Whether we’re talking about food security, export earnings, regional communities, environmental stewardship or innovation, farmers are central to all of that and to Australia’s prosperity,” Mr McIntyre said.

“Ag Day is a chance to showcase the people behind the food on our plates, the fibre in our clothes, the timber in our houses and the industries that support regional communities and underpin Australia’s economy.”

Mr McIntyre encouraged farmers, schools, agribusinesses, farm organisations, local councils and community groups to get involved.

“Over the years, the day has grown from an industry celebration into a broader opportunity to connect urban and regional Australians through the shared importance of food and farming,” he said.

“Ag Day is just 67 days away.

“Please consider hosting an event, wearing an Ag Day tee, sharing your own story, entering the photo competition, or sharing one of our ready-made social media tiles.”

Last year there were more than 110 official events, plus many more in offices, paddocks and shopfronts.

“We’d love that number to grow even more this year,” Mr McIntyre said.

“We are passionate about Ag Day at the NFF and we’re excited to stop and celebrate one of Australia’s most important industries and the people who make it possible.”
