THREE more Copper Coast residents have been named winners in the fourth round of Copper Coast Council’s Take the Pledge program.

Katrina Miller, Kadina, Lynlee Sloper, Wallaroo, and Andrew Thamm, Moonta, each received a $50 voucher to be spent at a hardware or nursery store on the Copper Coast, as well as a free six-metre x 4m trailer load of compost from the Copper Coast Resource Recovery Centre, Wallaroo.

Take the Pledge encourages people to ensure they are utilising their Food Organics Garden Organics bin appropriately to minimise household waste.

Mr Thamm said it hasn’t been hard to focus on using his FOGO bin more.

“I decided to get involved because the material collected then didn’t go to landfill but mainly this is a valuable resource to be used by any gardener, especially with cost of water and putting carbon back into the soil, and I never expected to get any recognition,” he said.

“I hope all people can see the benefits of this and encourage them to get into the movement.

“It hasn’t been hard at all as I have been doing my own composting so this was going to become easier by just putting it in the green bin.

“I would also like something to happen with recycling bins, along the same lines but this may be more difficult.”

Ms Miller said she decided to participate after seeing the program online and in the paper.

“It was easy to join and I thought it would make me more accountable to doing the right thing with my recyclables and green waste, to eliminate the amount going to landfill,” she said.

“It is my small contribution to help the environment.

“It is an easy process to sign up as council send you a small package with information regarding Taking the Pledge.

“There’s a sticker for your bin and an information magnet for the fridge to make deciding what can go in the green bin easier — everyone should Take the Pledge.

“Utilising the magnet made the process simple for me to change to the green waste system.

“In my kitchen for many years, I have a dual bin where I was already separating rubbish and recyclables, so I would check the magnet and if the item didn’t fit in the system I already had, it went to green waste.

“It was an easy conversion for me.”

To deliver Take the Pledge, council has partnered with KESAB Environmental Solutions.
