Keep calm and order early
ON THE WAY... Toyota has begun the first customer deliveries of its all-new LandCruiser 300 Series (Sahara ZX shown) as customers are being asked to order early to avoid disappointment.

SUPPLY issues caused by Covid-19 are continuing to hit the automotive industry.

But, according to Peninsula Toyota’s Richard Bussenschutt patience is key.

“There’s a global shortage of parts, not only for Toyotas but for all makes, that affects building a new car because of issues with labour,” Mr Bussenschutt said.

“Covid-19 has affected the workers so there are not enough staff to be able to supply the requisite parts to complete the cars.

“It wasn’t that long ago that we were telling people it would take between four and eight months for their new car to arrive, now we’re looking at six to 12 and I don’t see it getting better in the next six months.”

Mr Bussenschutt said there is a limited stock of new vehicles around but encouraged people to start ordering in advance.

“Our demo vehicles are not sold until we can get replacements for them so people need to keep these things in mind when car shopping,” he said.

“This is an Australia-wide problem, we just ask that people have patience and not be disheartened.

“If people are thinking about buying a car in the next six months, I really suggest they put their names down now because it is only going to get worse after that time.”

While the delays can seem unhelpful, Mr Bussenschutt said there are some unexpected upsides as well.

“A car being delayed by a year can actually be beneficial as it means you have an extra year to save money, which gives you a bigger deposit,” he said.

“The prices of trade-ins and used cars have also gone up immensely in the past two years, so if you think you need to move now to make sure you get a good price, they’re also only going to increase.

“Used cars are going to be worth more in 12 months.

“People just need to be patient and forward thinking.”
