JANDEBREY White Suffolk Stud, Sandilands, run by Geoff and Tania Stock, held its 22nd annual ram sale on Wednesday, September 23.
Eighty rams went under the hammer at the Maitland showgrounds, with 61 being sold.
The average price was $1079 and the top-priced ram sold for $1600.
This marked an improvement from last year, when the average price was $993 and the top-priced ram went for $1550.
Mr Stock said spirited bidding from repeat buyers lifted prices above the previous year’s average.
“Jandebrey’s strong reputation for producing reliable, paddock-ready rams meant repeat buyers, who were unable to attend the auction due to unforeseen circumstances, wasted no time securing a further 20 rams on-property after the sale,” Mr Stock said.
“For the second year running Des Detmar, through agent Mark Carter, purchased the top-priced ram.
“The ram was sired by Baringa 16/0224 and was the most stylish ram in the sale, displaying clean Suffolk features, excellent length and muscling.

“Mr Detmar will use the ram over Border Leicester-Merino ewes.”
Mr Carter bought six rams, averaging $1066, for his clients.
Repeat buyers from Orkney Props, Naracoorte, bought seven rams to $1100, averaging $1050.
Roger and Alison Clift, Sheaoak Pastoral, Sheaoak Flat, have been buying Jandebrey rams for more than 25 years and secured five rams to $1500, averaging $1440.
“These rams are ready to go straight into the paddock and it’s great to see lambs bringing good prices,” Mr Clift said.
Other buyers included Redding Farming, Sandilands; C.M. Parsons, Curramulka; and K. & K.A. Campion, Curramulka.
“Lamb prices are holding up well and there is still plenty of confidence this positive trend will continue,” Mr Stock said.
“We are thrilled our loyal client base continues to gain the best returns possible by using Jandebrey sires.”
