Most devastating fires in local history destroy seven homes, crops and more

SEVEN homes were among 11 structures destroyed — but no lives were lost — as a fire tore through southern Yorke Peninsula last Wednesday and Thursday, November 20-21.

Yorketown Country Fire Service volunteers were kitted up and waiting to be called to a fire at Price when a blaze at the edge of their hometown was reported at about 3.30pm Wednesday.

SA Police and CFS fire cause investigators are reporting the cause was a power network fault, as they looked closely at a burned-out transformer near the Yorketown water tower.
