Experiencing the SYP fire firsthand

I LEARNED three things in the early hours of Thursday morning — never underestimate the ferocity of a fire, never think it won’t happen to you, and for heaven’s sake prepare a bushfire action plan.

I’ve reported on quite a number of fires but it is different when it’s this close to home.

Wednesday when I travelled to cover the Yorketown fire, alarm bells rang when the CFS appliance I was following turned towards Edithburgh, and I could see smoke coming from the direction of my mother-in-law’s farm.
