Mackenzie hearing for the first time

FOR the first year of her life Mackenzie Shoumack, of Moonta, was profoundly deaf.

When she became the first child on Yorke Peninsula to receive bilateral simultaneous cochlear implants at 12 months, and they were activated, Mackenzie’s eyes lit up.

Her parents knew she had heard sound for the first time.
