OFFICIAL UNVEILING... CFS chief officer Mark Jones, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia, and Yorke Peninsula Council mayor Darren Braund officially unveil a monument commemorating the November 2019 bushfires on Saturday, September 26. The monument also pays tribute to the pioneers of Honiton, as well as the courage of local and wider community members and emergency service personnel during and after the fire. The monument has been built using stone salvaged from one of the Honiton houses damaged in the blaze.

Governor unveils fire memorial
HIS Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia, officially unveiled a monument to commemorate the November 2019 bushfires on Saturday, September 26.
The monument, built using stone salvaged from one of the houses damaged in the fire, includes a plaque honouring the settlers who built the properties in the Honiton area as well as those who helped fight the fires of 2019.
The unveiling event was organised by Yorke Peninsula Council and the local bushfire recovery committee, and held on Troubridge Hill Road.
