YP barley grass glyphosate resistant

A YORKE Peninsula population of northern barley grass has been confirmed resistant to South Australia’s key herbicide, glyphosate.

The resistance has been confirmed in weeds along fences and around buildings on YP, according to University of Adelaide associate professor of weed management and Australian Glyphosate Sustainability Working Group chairperson Dr Chris Preston.

Northern barley grass is important in winter-dominant rainfall zones, providing early green feed for livestock but producing damaging sharp seeds that penetrate sheep eyes and bodies in spring.
