JobSeeker increase a substantial help

A NATIONAL survey by the Australian Council of Social Services indicates lowering the JobSeeker rate will have a significant or extreme impact on the vast majority of recipients and their ability to cover the costs of essentials.

The survey of 955 people currently receiving JobSeeker, Youth Allowance or other social security payments — which were increased with the coronavirus supplement — showed the extra cash had made a significant difference to their lives.

Salvation Army Copper Coast Corps Captain Karen Armstrong said fewer people had needed the Salvos’ help since government payments increased to help people, and the economy, through COVID-19.
