Efforts of firies, vital cool change, save towns from fire
LIGHTNING ignited a fire which took off rapidly to the west of Arthurton and Weetulta, and beelined towards Maitland, in catastrophic conditions at about noon Friday, December 20.
CFS Yorke Valley Group had a team on active standby due to the predicted weather, and members sprang into action after witnessing at least four lightning strikes.
Group officer Andrew Cadd said if it hadn’t been for the team on standby, it would have taken at least 20 minutes for crews to be called out — and the result could have been very different.
