Our first summer heatwave hits hard

RECORDS tumbled daily as Yorke Peninsula residents sweltered through four consecutive days above 40 degrees Celsius from Tuesday to Friday, December 17-20.

It was the first heatwave of the season with temperatures recorded at 16 degrees above the normal December average.

Friday’s conditions prompted a catastrophic fire danger rating and total fire bans across the state, closing multiple long day care, rural care and childcare services across YP.
