COPPER Coast Sport and Leisure Centre, Kadina, is hosting a Variety Activate Inclusion Sports Day on Thursday, June 9.
The free day is a fun way for people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities to try a range of activities.
“Variety Activate Inclusion Sports Days give kids the opportunity to try sports they might otherwise miss out on,” a Disability Sports Australia spokesperson said.
“They are aimed at kids aged 5 to 18 and are an ideal opportunity to have a go in a fun and inclusive environment.
“Each day involves a range of sports to try, specialised coaching, adaptive equipment, showbags, access to community services and opportunities to network with other families and teachers.”
The days encourage and empower kids to explore sports, the spokesperson said.
“Benefits of attending the day include the health benefits of physical activity, building social wellbeing and friendship, strengthening balance, coordination and mobility skills, working as part of a team, collaborating and planning and increased self-esteem through a sense of achievement,” the spokesperson said.
Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre manager Giles Ellis said he was excited to host such an event.
“The day will be delivered by One Culture who are trained in this field,” he said.
“It will be great for us to see what sports are popular and we can look to do more of it in the future.”
The session will begin at 10am and finish at 1pm.
