THERE are just 21 days until the GROUNDED YP Art Festival begins showcasing local talent.
A total of 42 art and culture workshop/events will be held across the festival, Friday to Sunday, August 11-20.
“These workshops will showcase an amazing array of talent and diversity of local Yorke Peninsula and Narungga artists,” YPC arts and cultural facilitator Sonya Rankine said.
“Workshops and events being held in Ardrossan, Brentwood, Edithburgh, Maitland, Marion Bay, Minlaton, Point Pearce, Port Vincent, South Kilkerran, Warooka and Yorketown.
“Due to the successful project funding grant received from Regional Arts Fund through Country Arts SA, several of the workshops and events have been subsidised to offer affordable options to support our community and visitors engaging in the fantastic line up during GROUNDED.”
Workshops include weaving, boomerang throwing, jewellery making, drawing, costume upcycling, photography, wood carving, ceramic painting and glazing, dance, resin art, sculptures and music.
“Why GROUNDED, and what is the purpose of curating an arts festival for the people and visitors of Yorke Peninsula?” Sonya said.
“Yorke Peninsula’s ground is ancient, significant, and productive, shack owners escape to the peninsula as it has a grounding and calming effect on one’s mood.
“The community sets its roots in the peninsula’s ground and works hard to produce excellent things for our people.
“By offering numerous platforms for important storytelling and expression, we can connect with our visitors.”
Sonya paid tribute to the community groups and businesses who had supported the festival so far, including major sponsors Yorketown Progress Association, Ardrossan Progress Association and SYP Photography Club; gold sponsors Port Vincent Progress Association, Barley Stacks Winery, Sunnyhill Distillery and Bray Signs and Safety; silver sponsors Ray Agnew, Cheetham Salt, Minlaton Septic, Watsacowie Brewing Company, Lakun Mara, Ballara Art and Lifestyle Retreat, Studio Surf, ONE Fiddlewood, YP Country Times and Nutrien Ag Solutions; bronze sponsors Hunt Fuels, Stansbury Progress Association, Tiddy Widdy Progress Association, Jandebrey White Suffolks and 5 Five 7 Five, as well as donations from Nana Jayne’s Cafe.
