ORGANISERS are ready to go for the 152nd annual Copper Coast Show, Saturday and Sunday, August 19 and 20.
Horses will take to the oval from 8.30am on Saturday, while judging of sheep, poultry, pigeons and other sections will begin at 10am.
This year, the show gates will open a little later — at 10am on Saturday and will shut at 6pm while the show will be open from 9am to 3pm on Sunday.
“The committee decided a change in hours would be beneficial this year, hopefully encouraging people to come through after Saturday morning commitments,” a show spokesperson said.
Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey will officially open the show at noon, before presenting Show Society Awards to long-serving members Dianne Correll and David Mildwaters.
At 1pm, another valued member of the show society, Graham Sobey, will be recognised when the Graham Sobey Lounge is opened to the public at 1pm.
There’s entertainment aplenty across the two days with everything from sideshows to ag demonstrations, a sandpit and a working blacksmith’s display.
Local talents will also be on show, with the Kadina Wallaroo Moonta Band and Bruce Wayne Birch performing on Saturday.
Sunday’s program is a family fun extravaganza.
It’s also the last chance for you to vote on your favourite piece in the Copper Coast Show Art Prize, which can be found in the exhibition building on both days.
If you fancy yourself an expert behind the wheel backing a caravan, then come test your skills from 9am to 2pm.
Students from Kadina Memorial, Moonta Area and Wallaroo Primary Schools will take to the stage from 10am.
Pets (except assistance dogs) are not allowed on the grounds as livestock and other animals will be on site.
The place to be for agricultural experiences
THE Copper Coast Show is the place to be for agricultural experiences, as the committee seeks to connect the community with the area’s key industry.
It all starts with the SA Schools Livestock Expo on Friday, August 18.
School students from across Yorke Peninsula and the Mid North will have a chance to compete in Led Steer and Goat competitions for prizes, as well as receive feedback before they attend the Royal Adelaide Show in September.
The event is open and free for public to enter through the car park from 11am.
Demonstrations and opportunities for engagements are key features of the show’s ag program.
The Ag Discovery Trail starts at the show society marquee each day, and takes participants around the showground to teach them about the story behind produce.
The Ag Marquee is also set to be a hub of activity, with sheep shearing, lamb feeding, sheep dog trials, horse and cart rides and bird wing clipping demonstrations.
President’s report
THIS year’s 152nd Copper Coast Show (formerly the Kadina Show) will be much bigger than usual with a lot more to see.
The showgrounds look in excellent condition thanks to our hardworking committee and small band of volunteers, and also thanks to the Copper Coast Council for their continual support.
The Ag Discovery Trail and discovery bags will be available again, which are designed to give young ones an insight into where food comes from and are supported by Moonta and Kadina SACWA branches.
We are also excited to host a petting zoo, sand pit, pedal car circuit as well as sideshows and showbags, and of course the famous Junk Man.
There will be working displays from the Copper Coast Woodworkers and blacksmiths too.
Saturday is a day of judging, with sheep, pigeons and poultry all being examined.
Horse events will again happen in the arena including show jumping, hack and carriage driving on both days.
The exhibition building will have cookery, flowers, fruit and veg, jams, photography and handicraft as well as art, including the Copper Coast Show Art Prize, which is supported by Carpet Court Kadina.
We have a new second-hand shed to house wool and grain made available by a federal government grant.
The grandstand building will have many trade sites and there will be plenty around the showgrounds as well as outdoor food stalls and a sit-down indoor area in the grandstand dining room.
On Saturday, there will be some vintage and classic cars on display and Sunday there’s a competition to see who is the best at backing a caravan.
Keep an eye out as well for the scarecrows around the grounds, and our talented locals entertaining the crowds.
The show will be officially opened at noon, and the Graham Sobey Lounge, a newly refurbished room in the grandstand, at 1pm.
Schools from the Yorke Peninsula and Mid North will be on site on Friday for the led goat and steer competitions.
A very big thank you to all the businesses for their sponsorship and support throughout the year, without your support we would not be able to run a show.
This year we held three auctions with antiques and general goods, a Taste of Africa Day and a swap meet to raise funds for showgrounds maintenance.
Thanks to the Kadina Memorial School youth engagement program where every Monday a group of students come to the showgrounds to help with maintenance.
We are very appreciative of our helpers in this program.
Thanks to my show committee and volunteers, without your dedication and personal hundreds of hours this show would not happen
Feel welcome to visit and enjoy the Copper Coast Show.
