Fully-electric EV6 rolls onto the YP
THE FUTURE ARRIVES... Peninsula Kia sales manager Ray Faulkner and general manager Richard Bussenschutt are proud to be displaying the new Kia EV6, the first vehicle in Australia able to be fuelled by an 800-volt charging station.

KIA’s brand new EV6 has made its way to Yorke Peninsula.

The top-of-the-range fully-electric SUV has been welcomed to Peninsula Kia, Kadina, after being rolled out to Australia in February.

Being demonstrated in the showroom in a moonscape matte finish, the GT-Line is an all-wheel drive with a high-output dual-electric motor, able to travel 484-kilometres on a full battery.

The EV6 is Australia’s first ever car able to be fuelled by an 800-volt electric vehicle charging station.

Peninsula Kia general manager Richard Bussenschutt said 800v charging capacity is set to be very beneficial as high-rate charging infrastructure continues to roll out in Australia.

“It takes 17-18 minutes to charge from 10-percent to 80 per cent (at 800v), so you could essentially drive 500km, stop for a coffee and then drive another 500km,” Mr Bussenschutt said.

“This will be a game changer in the local automotive industry when more high output charge stations become more readily available.”

Charging the EV6 from home with a Kia fast charger system would take about 11 hours to reach full capacity.

“(The EV6 is) equipped with a 74-kilowatt long-range battery, so with prices sitting at about 35 cents per kw, that equates to around $26 to travel about 500km,” Mr Bussenschutt said.

“If your household has solar it will considerably reduce that cost if charged during a sunny day.

“One of the highlights of this vehicle is its zero running emissions.”

Mr Bussenschutt said securing the vehicle on the YP was a great result for the community.

“I’m looking forward to seeing many more EVs on YP in the future,” he said.

“This isolated range of quick-charging vehicles is becoming well within the grasp of local drivers.”
