FOR 18 years, Star of the Sea Community Care has helped older people across Yorke Peninsula, the Mid North and Port Pirie stay at home.

A team of 45 qualified and caring staff supports 190 clients through home care and Veterans’ Home Care services.

“Staff are working with clients and families around the new Support at Home program which commences on November 1, including the End-of-Life pathway, which will ensure that your loved one can stay at home comfortably in their last days,” community care general manager Mel King said.

Malcolm and Kay Bridges, clients of Star of the Sea Community Care, were previously cared for by their daughter Kerrie Taylor. As her parents’ health declined, the demands became too much.

Now, with regular support from Star of the Sea, the couple has been able to remain independent in the home they’ve lived in for 40 years.

“For them to stay at home, Star of the Sea Community Care has made it so much easier,” Kerrie said.

“It’s made a difference in my life knowing Mum and Dad are being looked after.”

Carers visit the house every day with Kerrie spending time with “the kids” at other times.

“It’s the socialisation and to have someone pop in every day, it’s great,” she said.

“The carers are like family to Mum and Dad.

“I would be very lost without Star of the Sea Community Care.”

Kay said the staff who visit their home are “amazing”.

“They take us shopping and now they know what we buy,” she said. “It’s great.”

Star of the Sea Community Care offers social support activities and regular client lunches, with plans to expand in 2026 to include art and social groups.
