USERS of the Kadina oval will soon have access to improved services.

Kadina Oval Facilities Foundation is set to assist in delivering a new LED scoreboard, public toilet amenities and extension of the Baz Fry Shed.

The first project delivered through the foundation, a 25.8 square metre electronic scoreboard, will be installed adjacent the current scoreboard and improve the vision for spectators across the venue, particularly during night games.

A 9m x 5m extension of the Baz Fry Shed will include the construction of a new elevated coach’s box — like the previous time keeper’s box — meaning the two can be used by each coach during football matches.

Finally, a 9m x 4m toilet block will also add to new infrastructure on the eastern side of the field and include two male, two female and one disabled cubicle.

KOFF was established following the successful Kadina Football Club lighting project, where four 150-lux floodlights were installed around the oval in March 2021.

Executives Kent Newbery and Dean Flowers are joined by board members Mathew East, Paul March and John Shane to oversee the foundation’s projects.

“The foundation has a charter to raise funds and use them to add, upgrade or replace facilities and infrastructure at the oval precinct,” they said.

“Although located at a sporting precinct, the intention of these projects is to benefit the wider community.

“As well as football, cricket, hockey, and netball clubs, the oval and its surrounds are used by community organisations such as Kadina Memorial School and the Kernewek Lowender committee.

“Upgrades such as new toilet facilities on the mound opposite the clubrooms will benefit a range of oval users.”

Newbery and Flowers said the projected facility upgrades would help attract more events to the oval.

“We would like Kadina to become a popular venue for sporting carnivals,” they said.

“We also see an opportunity for Kadina to be a future leader in promoting female participation in football and cricket, and for games to be played at night.

“We are adopting a ‘build it and they will come’ attitude and hope community support will continue the momentum.”

Copper Coast Council CEO Russell Peate said the KOFF projects would create a positive boost for the community.

“These upgrades will no doubt help out during community events,” Mr Peate said.

“Credit must go to Kent and Dean for progressing this great initiative.”

Australian LED supplier Big Screen Video will install the new scoreboard, while local contractors will complete the toilet block and shed extension.

KOFF aims for the three projects to be completed by the 2023 Copper Coast SA Masters Games, April 20-23.
