MOORED in Port Adelaide but sailing the full stretch of South Australia’s coast, the tall ship One and All is far more than a majestic vessel.
It’s a life-changing platform for young people, a symbol of community spirit and a floating classroom for self-discovery.
For more than 38 years, One and All has been crewed by volunteers under the Friends of the One and All Sailing Ship Inc. — a registered not-for-profit charity delivering hands-on youth development through real-world sailing.
Each year, dozens of young South Australians — some from city suburbs, others from remote regional towns — embark on multi-day voyages.
Many have never stepped on a sailing ship before. All leave with newfound confidence, communication skills and resilience.
Youth participants are not passengers — they’re crew.
They hoist sails, steer the helm, keep night watch, and work shoulder to shoulder with experienced mentors.
It’s a digital-free, teamwork-rich environment where self-growth is front and centre.
“I came aboard nervous and unsure, but left knowing I can do more than I ever thought possible,” one recent participant said.
Beyond youth programs, the ship is sustained by a passionate volunteer crew. Their skills, time and heart keep the ship operational and the programs accessible.
One and All also proudly showcases South Australia at regional ports, festivals and community events — sparking pride and connection wherever she docks.
As a not-for-profit, the ship relies on grants, fundraising and community partnerships.
Local donors and businesses play a vital role in keeping the sails full and the programs afloat.

One and All is more than a ship — it’s a beacon of what’s possible when courage, community and canvas unite.
