NETBALL is back in full swing on southern Yorke Peninsula.

Southern Yorke Peninsula Netball Association is looking forward to providing a fun environment for all skill levels and ages, with the season beginning on Friday, May 3.

“The association is not affiliated with Netball SA; however, competition is played under the same rules with some minor exceptions,” SYP Netball Association president Abigail Hickman said.

“Our 2023 season was highlighted by some great competition across all the grades.

“The seniors, in particular, had some very close competition, with the B grade final being won by one goal!

“There was a team of vet staff, a team of roustabouts, and some very colourful uniforms!”

Registrations through the association secretary are now open for the 2024 season and must be submitted by April 5.

“Teams can be submitted from a club, or you can assemble a group of friends, give yourself a name and register your own team,” Abigail said.

“Other than our usual grades of G, F, E and seniors, this year we have introduced non-competitive walking netball.

“Games will be played fortnightly; there are no set teams, players can just turn up on the night to play; however, we would appreciate if players could contact our secretary and advise their interest.”

In 2023 the association ran a trainee program for those interested in learning how to umpire.

“We are excited to be offering this program again in 2024,” Abigail said.

“Everyone involved in netball across YP will know how difficult it is to find umpires, so if you are interested to learn, this program is a great opportunity.

“We are hoping to run some specific umpire training sessions to enhance this program even further.

“We are looking forward to a fun-filled 2024!”
