GREATER access to faster internet is helping more Yorke Peninsula residents work remotely, operate businesses from home, and stay connected — all thanks to the upgraded nbn Fixed Wireless network.

More than 5600 homes and businesses across the region are now eligible to access significantly faster wholesale internet speeds, thanks to the completion of the nbn Fixed Wireless and Satellite Upgrade Program.

As part of the program, equipment on more than 2300 towers across Australia — including sites on Yorke Peninsula — has been upgraded.

The result: eligible premises can now access wholesale peak speeds of 400 Mbps download and 10-40 Mbps upload — around four times faster than before.

With most households running up to five connected devices at any time, nbn Fixed Wireless offers the capacity to support business needs, remote work, education, and entertainment.

According to the Maitland and District Progress Association, the improved connectivity is a major drawcard for people looking to relocate from the city.

“We want people to know they can move to this beautiful part of the country and work remotely while boosting the local economy,” president Roger Francis said.

“But we also want locals to have the same access to the internet speeds people living in the city have.

“Fixed Wireless is an economic and social win for our community.”

Customers Darran and Danielle Taylor say upgrading to nbn Fixed Wireless has been a game-changer for their home and businesses.

“We run both our businesses from home, so faster, more reliable internet is essential,” Danielle said.

“We’re so happy we discovered nbn Fixed Wireless — it’s great value and gives us peace of mind we’ll stay connected, even when seven or more devices are online.”

nbn Local SA Manager Travis Bates said it was rewarding to see the network improving digital experiences in regional communities.

“Giving more homes access to faster internet is like an early Christmas present,” he said.

“With the summer holidays ahead, it means families can stream movies, enjoy online gaming, watch the cricket in 4K, and just enjoy a better digital lifestyle overall.”

The nbn Fixed Wireless network uses dedicated hybrid 4G/5G technology to transmit data from a transmission tower to an NBN antenna installed on the property by an approved NBN technician, then to an NBN connection box inside the home — enabling high-speed connectivity for smart devices, computers, TVs and more.
