HART Bros began in 1965 when John “Jock” and his younger brother George commenced carting gypsum for Waratah Gypsum at Stenhouse Bay.

This was entrepreneurial on Jock’s part, as he identified early on the change from rail to trucks for carting gypsum to the plant — a trend which has only continued across the wider industry.

Since those early days, many Hart family members have been part of the business, including Jock’s sons Gary and Wayne, and Gary’s four children and grandchildren.

Gary is director, his son Anthony is operations manager, whilst his daughter Angela works in administration and grandson Byron works in the field.

The business has also employed many other locals from right across lower Yorke Peninsula, expanding from two staff to now having 13.

What started as gypsum carting has expanded significantly, as Hart Bros offers a wide range of services on Yorke Peninsula and throughout regional South Australia.

These include:

  • Bulk cartage
  • Earthmoving
  • Construction and domestic water cartage
  • Sand and metal supplies at Hart Bros’ Warooka and Minlaton retail depots
  • Rubbish removal
  • Site toilets

“We appreciate all our customers, suppliers and the local community for their business and support throughout our 59 years of business and we can’t wait to celebrate our 60-year milestone in 2025,” Gary said.

“A huge thank you to all current employees for their hard work and dedication to our family business.”
