BIRTHDAY... Fully Baked Bakehouse’s Mickelle Andrewartha and Brenton Glover are excited to celebrate the business’s first birthday this week.
IT has been a bumpy start for Fully Baked Bakehouse, Kadina, but the business is gearing up to celebrate its first birthday this week.
Fully Baked Bakehouse opened its doors on November 18, 2020, but was forced to close the following day after the state government announced a six-day circuit breaker lockdown.
The lockdown only lasted three days; however, the business couldn’t open until Tuesday, November 24, because they had to remake all the fresh goods.
They were also dealt another blow in July when severe weather caused the ceiling to collapse.
Despite the challenges, the business thrived, picking up a few accolades along the way including Magic FM’s Region’s Best Meat Pie and second place for its finger buns in the Baking Association of Australia’s SA baking awards.
“We decided to take on co-ownership of the bakery for a sea change and change of lifestyle because we had been in the city for a while,” Mickelle Andrewartha, one of four co-owners, said.
“We are country people, moved to the city for work, had enough of the rat race and wanted to come back to a seaside area with a country atmosphere.”
Mickelle said everything is baked from scratch on site by professional baker and co-owner Brenton Glover using traditional methods.
“The support from the community has been great, we also like to support small businesses and source a lot of our products locally,” she said.
“We recently supplied items for the Paskeville Field Days and also went through our first Kernewek Lowender where we made about 1800 Cornish pasties.
“We really want to expand into wholesale production and are happy to work with sporting and community clubs.”
The business will celebrate with specials and giveaways on Wednesday, November 24.
