IT can be challenging to look after your physical and mental health, especially when you are living with a disability — but Enabling Country Communities is here to help.
Enabling Country Communities is southern Yorke Peninsula’s locally based private disability support provider.
The organisation’s friendly staff offer in-home personal support, social and community inclusion and participation, transport and short-term respite — all based on SYP and for SYP residents.
“We offer support for participants exclusively in the Minlaton and lower YP area and, unlike other disability providers offering similar services in the area, we are based in Minlaton and not hundreds of kilometres away,” owner/operator Tim Walsh said.
“We are the very first private local provider with an office in the lower YP area, based in Minlaton.
“We are proud to be based in the locality of our supports, making us a visible presence in the community, easier to approach, supporting our much-needed local economy, and providing local knowledge.”
Being locally based means Enabling Country Communities staff understand the region and unique challenges faced by people living with disability and their carers.
“I have lived in remote and rural communities all my life and have personal experience living with a disability as a child and then again as an adult,” Tim said.
“I have faced the personal challenges and stigma of living with a disability and I am proud and passionate about being part of the solution of inclusiveness for everyone.”
Social outings and respite Far more than your average respite services, Enabling Country Communities offers its clients social outings, which gets people out and about, whilst also giving their carers a break.
Rather than just staying at clients’ homes, Enabling Country Communities staff can take people on overnight stays in Adelaide — where they can attend events like football and cricket matches or concerts through the organisation’s corporate seating at Adelaide Oval.
This gives participants something to look forward to, and new interests to engage with mentally and physically.
Anyone with a companion card is encouraged to bring a friend or family member to enjoy the experience.
Enabling Country Communities also offers social outings locally, including shopping and simply socialising within the community, and offers a free Parkinson’s support group — all welcome.
“Love your music or watching sports, and want to be more involved and supported with activities throughout South Australia?
Then give Enabling Country Communities a call,” Tim said.
Enabling Country Communities is based at 12a Fifth Street, Minlaton, and its services are available 24/7.
