CRACKED Pepper Café, Kadina, is leading the way with sustainability in cafes and restaurants on Yorke Peninsula.

New owner and operator Natalie Hewett began on August 3 and said she has seen weekly waste output drop dramatically.

She said staff are constantly focused on introducing new ways to be environmentally conscious, including the potential of QR codes on customer keep cups and recycling their rubbish.

“At the end of November, I have a machine coming where we will throw in all the food scraps and, within 24 hours it will be turned into mulch,” she said.

“All plastic wrap goes to Woolworths, I’ve got silicon reusable pouches for our fresh goods and they get sanitised between usage, instead of using plastics it’s much more sustainable.

“Our milk cartons and bottle caps eventually end up at YP Recycling.”

Nat said visitors to Cracked Pepper can enjoy the same menu and feel, in a cafe with a new focus on recycling and sustainability.

“It’s  the same great service, and the same great food that people have always known,” she said.
