YORKE Peninsula residents are invited to build their digital skills at free Being Digital sessions at Ardrossan, Yorketown, Minlaton and Maitland libraries in March.
Delivered by Telstra in partnership with the South Australian Government through LibrariesSA, the program aims to improve digital literacy across regional and remote communities.
The initiative responds to Australian Digital Inclusion Index findings, which show about 2.5 million Australians remain highly digitally excluded, with South Australia among the states most in need of support.
Being Digital delivers free, locally tailored training through public libraries in 23 regional council areas, with a goal of helping more than 4000 South Australians get online and stay connected.
Yorke Peninsula Council acting manager people, culture and safety Carina Congdon said the sessions would provide practical, hands-on assistance.
“Digital technology plays a part in almost every aspect of daily life — from banking and shopping to staying in touch with family and accessing services,” Mrs Congdon
said.
“These free sessions provide a welcoming and supportive environment where people can build confidence at their own pace, whether they’re just getting started with a smartphone or exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
“Council is proud to support opportunities that strengthen digital inclusion across our communities and ensure no one is left behind in an increasingly online world.”
Sessions will cover topics including basic device use, setting up email and communication apps, online safety and scam awareness, social media privacy, secure online shopping and banking, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Formats will range from structured workshops to informal drop-in sessions, offering participants the chance to ask questions, troubleshoot devices and receive one-on-one support.
Community members can attend one or more sessions, with bookings available through local libraries.
